Sherk to face Griffin in October
Former UFC Lightweight Champion Sean Sherk will face top contender Tyson Griffin at UFC 90 on October 25. The winner would seem to have earned a shot at the lightweight title sometime in 2009.
Sherk (36-3-1 is coming off a third round TKO loss to B.J. Penn at UFC 84 in May. He had defeated his previous three UFC opponents (Hermes Franca, Kenny Florian, and Nick Diaz) and is widely considered to be one of the top lightweights in the world.
Winner of his past four fights, Griffin (12-1) would most likely solidify his shot as the #1 lightweight contender in the UFC with a victory over Sherk.
Two other lightweight contenders, Kenny Florian and Joe Stevenson will face each other at UFC 91 in November.
Lightweight Champion, B.J. Penn, is tentatively scheduled to face UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St. Pierre in early 2009.

Sherk stripped of title by UFC
Sean Sherk's suspension by the California State Athletic Commission has prompted the UFC to strip the the lightweight of his title belt. Sherk (32-2-1) tested positive for nandrolone and was originally suspended one year and fined $2,500 in July.
On December 4, the CSAC voted to reduce the suspension to six months, but it did not rule Sherk "not guilty". Sherk has indicated he may take civil action against the CSAC.
B.J. Penn and Joe Stevenson are now set to fight for the lightweight title at UFC 80 on January 19, 2008.
