Rogers gets knockout over Humphrey

Brett Rogers opened the Strikeforce on Showtime event last night with an impressive 2nd round TKO victory over Abongo Humphrey. Using superior striking and knee strikes in the clinch, Rogers (9-0) easily defeated the former television reality show "The Ring" winner Humphrey (5-1).

Rogers (9-0) got to the second round after a choppy 1st round in which he was penalized one point for grabbing the hair of Humphrey, who was wearing his long hair with dreadlocks. The fight was paused on three different occasions while referee Herb Dean warned Rogers and eventually took the point away.

After the fight, Rogers indicated to the crowd of 15,211 that he did not intentionally grab the dreadlocks.

Local heavyweight to appear on Showtime

Heavyweight Brett Rogers will make his long awaited return to the cage tonight live on Showtime Sports at Strikeforce: Shamrock vs. Diaz. Rogers (8-0), who has not fought since knocking out Jon Murphy in May of 2008, will face Ron "Abongo" Humphrey of Atlanta. Humphrey is also undefeated at 5-0, but has fought much lesser opponents than Rogers.

Rogers has the honor of being the first victorious fighter on network television when he defeated James Thompson on February 16, 2008 at EliteXC: Street Certified on CBS.

Morgan submits to Camoes

Team Bison fighter Sammy Morgan started the fight quickly with several low kicks to the legs of Brazilian Fabricio Camoes. Before he could get anything else going Camoes (9-4) had Morgan to the ground and mounted. Morgan quickly turned to his back and it took Camoes little time to secure the rear naked choke and the submission victory just 47 seconds into the first round.

Morgan (19-11) has lost three straight fights, but all have been to top fighters (Cung Le, Paul Daley and Camoes).

A winner of five straight fights, Camoes (9-4) called on EliteXC to give him a title shot.

“Where’s the big boys?” said Camoes. “I want a belt. I know there are a lot of tough guys in my weight class, but I came here to challenge.”

Morgan to fight on ShoXC

Minneapolis welterweight Sammy Morgan will make his second appearance for EliteXC on Friday when he faces Brazilian Fabricio Camoes (8-4) at ShoXC 7 live on Showtime. Morgan (19-10) lost his debut for the ProElite promotion at the January 25 ShoXC 4 card against top contender Paul Daley.

Camoes won his debut for EliteXC at ShoXC 6 on April 25, defeating current King Of The Cage Jr. Welterweight (160 lbs.) champion Joe Camacho.

The 27-year old Morgan, who trains with Team Bison, is looking to snap a 2-fight losing streak. Morgan lost to current Strikeforce Middleweight champion Cung Le on November 16, 2007. He has fought other well known fighters such as Forrest Petz, Shannon Ritch, Josh Burkman, Duane Ludwig, Manny Gamburyan, and Aaron Riley.

Be sure to tune into Showtime on Friday night at 10 PM.
