Coleman injured; Lesnar fight postponed

Former UFC heavyweight champion Mark Coleman has injured his knee and will be forced to withdraw from his fight against Brock Lesnar.

Coleman, 43, tore an MCL while training and will be sidelined up to six weeks.

Welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre (16-2) will now headline the UFC 87 event at Target Center, taking on Jon Fitch (17-2). Fitch is a former wrestler at Purdue University.

In announcing Coleman’s withdrawal from the bout, the UFC confirmed that Brock Lesnar is still expected to fight at UFC 87 and that a new opponent is yet to be determined.

Lesnar to face Hall of Famer Mark Coleman

New UFC Hall of Fame inductee, Mark Coleman, announced at the UFC 82 show that he would be making a comeback and his first fight would be against Brock Lesnar. Coleman, a former Pride Grand Prix & UFC Heavyweight Champion, said he has signed a four-fight deal with the UFC.

The fight will take place on August 9 at UFC 87. It will be held in the Twin Cities, most likely the Target Center.

Coleman (15-8) last fought on October 21, 2006 at Pride 32 in Las Vegas. He was defeated by Fedor Emelianenko by second round submission.

Lesnar (1-1) will be competing in just his third MMA fight, coming off a submission loss to another former UFC Heavyweight Champ, Frank Mir, at UFC 81 on February 2.
